Ghorepani Poonhill Trek review by Haoyu, China

If you are looking for a trek that packs the maximum amount of ‘wow’ factor into a short amount of time, Ghorepani Poon Hill is it. I’ve done several treks in the Himalayas, but nothing prepares you for the moment the first light hits the peaks of Mt. Dhaulagiri and Annapurna from the top of Poon Hill. Standing there at 3,210m, surrounded by golden mountains as the sun rises, is a spiritual experience that stays with you forever.

The trail itself is a dream—walking through ancient, rhododendron-filled forests, passing through charming Gurung villages, and climbing the famous stone stairs. It isn’t ‘easy’ per se, but it is incredibly rewarding. The teahouse culture is fantastic; ending the day with a hot plate of Dal Bhat and a warm cup of ginger lemon tea by a wooden stove was the highlight of my evenings. It’s the perfect introduction to Nepal’s trekking scene for beginners and pros alike.
