Pisang Peak Climbing – Kenji Watanabe, Japan

I have climbed in the Japanese Alps for over a decade, but nothing quite prepared me for the scale and silence of the Nepal Himalaya. Pisang Peak is often described as a “trekking peak,” yet the summit day tested every bit of my technical skill, from the exposed snow slopes to the final rocky scramble. The guides moved with such calm confidence that my own nerves settled almost immediately.

Beyond the climbing itself, the cultural experience of passing through Manang and the Buddhist villages along the way added a richness I had not expected. Sharing tea with local families and hearing their stories about the mountains made the journey feel like far more than a physical achievement. I would recommend this climb to anyone seeking both adventure and genuine connection.
