Food on the Annapurna Base Camp Trek
Nepal is a unique place where diverse religions and cultures can be found in a single committee. You will get the chance to encounter a multitude of Nepali dining customs here. During the Annapurna Base Camp Trek, you will spend a few days in the city and most of your days in the tea house.
In Kathmandu, you’ll discover many restaurants serving a variety of foods and drinks, ranging from local to international choices. You can choose where to eat based on your budget, from affordable places to fancier restaurants.
At the tea house, you will not find many choices of food like in the city area. Also the cost of the food and drinks that you can find in the city area double sometimes triple due to difficult road conditions. Food and drinks are carried by the porters or Yaks; therefore, it is costly at a higher altitude. Even though there is no wide variety of food in the tea house, you will get the chance to taste organic, typical, traditional Nepali food. Most of the trekking agencies provide meals three times a day while trekking: breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
For Breakfast: For breakfast, it will cost you around 3-7$ depending upon the types of food, food portion, and tea house altitude. The average tea house that provides breakfast includes; Breakfast Set(toast, chapati, or Tibetan, hot drinks), Tibetan Bread, Pancakes, Cereals, Paratha, French toast, vegetarian soup, eggs(variety), etc
For Lunch and Dinner: For lunch and dinner, it will cost you around 4-10$. The average tea house that provides lunch and dinner is Dal Bhat, Momo, Thentuk or Thukpa, Chowmein or Noodles, Fried Rice, Rice and Curry, Pizza, Pasta or Spaghetti, etc.

For Drinks: For drinking water, we recommend you carry a reusable water bottle and water purification tablet. However, you can buy the drinking water at $1 to $2. For hot beverages, you can get Tibetan tea, milk tea, black tea, mint tea, ginger tea, lemon tea, green tea, black coffee, or milk. You can buy anywhere from $2 to $5 for the hot beverage.
For Soft Drinks: For the soft drink you can get Coca-Cola, Fanta, Sprite, Pepsi, canned juice, energy drinks, etc. But it will cost you more than the MRP that is labeled on the bottle.
For Alcoholic beverages: For alcoholic beverages, you can get locally produced organic alcohol and also some imported international alcohol. But we don’t recommend drinking while you are trekking in the high altitude area.

Accommodation on the Annapurna Base Camp Trek
As we discussed earlier, you will spend a few days in the city area, so there are plenty of options for room to spend the night. You can choose a simple guest house to medium or even 5-star, depending upon your budget. Booking a hotel online is a really easy city area and a smart way to do it. You can find hotel prices starting from as low as $12 per night and going up to over $500 per night. In the city area, the cost includes the facilities like wifi and shower facilities.
At the tea house in the high altitude area, you will stay in the tea house, which will cost you around 5-10$ per night. Tea houses provide the basic facilities of food and room. Most of the tea house rooms have twin-bedded rooms, community dining areas, and shared bathrooms. Even though the rooms are basic it is comfortable. We recommend you carry the amenities like toilet paper, hand sanitizer, and wipes, so it will be helpful. Also, the tea house provides the facilities of the wifi and the charging station for the electronic gadget. You must have to pay extra bucks for it. The cost may vary depending on the tea house location.
At the lower altitude in the Annapurna region, inside the village, local people run the Mountain Lodges or Guest Houses and Homestays. Mountain Lodge and Guest House are costlier than the tea house and are located in the excellent palace from where you can see the amazing view of the surroundings. The rooms are bigger than the tea house, and you can get the facilities of a hot shower and a private bathroom. Also, in some lodges, you can get an electric blanket too.
Further Camping can also be done while doing the Annapurna Base Camp Trek. You cannot carry all the items yourself by trekking in the high altitude areas. You need to hire an extra porter if you want to go Camping. It is challenging, so most of the trekkers prefer staying in the tea house.
