The Ama Dablam Expedition with High Route Adventure is a remarkable mountaineering journey that encapsulates the essence of adventures in the heart of the Himalayas! Ama Dablam, often referred to as the “Matterhorn of the Himalayas” due to its distinctive pyramid shape, offers climbers a challenging yet rewarding ascent. The route to its summit is a test of technical skill, physical endurance, and unwavering determination! Are you ready?

The climb begins at Base Camp, nestled in the shadow of Ama Dablam, at an elevation of approximately 4,600 meters (15,092 feet). From here, climbers embark on an arduous journey that takes them through a series of high-altitude camps. The Advanced Base Camp (ABC), situated at around 5,639 meters (18,500 feet), serves as the launching point for the expedition’s higher reaches.

As climbers ascend, they traverse rocky terrains, negotiate steep ridges, and face the challenges of snow and ice. Camp I, also known as “The Yak Camp,” at about 5,700 meters (18,700 feet), offers the first significant rest stop! From there, they advance to Camp II, or “The Advanced Camp,” perched at approximately 6,000 meters (19,685 feet) on a narrow snow ridge. It’s here that climbers intensify their acclimatization efforts and prepare for the more demanding sections ahead.

High Route Adventure’s expert climbing guides continue with you to Camp III, known as “The Summit Camp,” at around 6,480 meters (21,260 feet). This camp is strategically placed just below Ama Dablam’s southwest ridge, making it the final camp before the summit push!

The ascent to the summit, standing tall at 6,812 meters (22,349 feet), is the Major highlight of the Ama Dablam expedition. Climbers must navigate technical rock and ice sections, employing their skills and determination to reach the pinnacle of Ama Dablam’s majestic Himalayan pyramid!

A few things you should know before climbing Mt Ama Dablam:

To conquer Ama Dablam, one must be equipped with a comprehensive arsenal of gear and equipment tailored to the requirements of high-altitude mountaineering in Nepal! In contrast to standard hiking gear, this expedition demands specialized tools and gear.

Crampons with precision-engineered spikes provide essential traction on icy surfaces, while harnesses with safety features offer peace of mind on tricky rock faces. Ice axes, designed for balance and power, are indispensable for navigating steep slopes and ice formations. Furthermore, altitude-resistant clothing, constructed with cutting-edge materials, ensures climbers remain warm and safe in the ever-changing Himalayan weather.

These tools are not mere accessories; they are lifelines, enabling climbers to conquer the unforgiving terrain of Ama Dablam. Climbers who embark on this expedition are advised to have some prior experience. Proficiency in rock and ice climbing is a benefit, as is the ability to utilize ropes and anchors!

Mt Ama Dablam is renowned for its formidable challenges. Its distinctive pyramid shape presents a complex medley of rock, snow, and ice obstacles. The exposed ridges and sheer rock faces demand a level of technical skill. With the help of High Route Adventure, you’ll navigate steep sections with finesse, employing a blend of rock and ice climbing techniques.

The thin air at high altitudes adds another layer of complexity, requiring climbers to acclimatize gradually and make calculated decisions to ensure their safety and success.

When to summit Mt Ama Dablam in Nepal?

The timing of the expedition is an important consideration! The optimal seasons for the Mt Ama Dablam expedition are autumn/fall (October-November) and spring (April-May). During these months, the weather tends to be more stable, with clear skies and manageable temperatures.

Embarking on the climb during other times of the year exposes climbers to harsh and unpredictable weather conditions, significantly increasing the risk associated with the ascent. Timing, therefore, is a factor that can make the difference between a successful summit and a perilous retreat!

The Climb to the summit:

Base Camp:

The journey begins at the base camp, situated at approximately 4,600 meters (15,092 feet) above sea level. This is the starting point for climbers and serves as the hub for organizing equipment, acclimatization, and initial briefings. High Route Adventure sets up our main camp here. It also provides a stunning vantage point for viewing Ama Dablam’s majestic pyramid shape!

Advanced Base Camp (ABC):

After training at base camp, climbers ascend to the advanced base camp, located at around 5,400 meters (17,716 feet). This camp is strategically positioned closer to the mountain and serves as a launch pad for further ascents. Climbers typically spend several days here, acclimatizing to the increasing altitude and preparing for the more challenging sections ahead.

Camp I:

Often referred to as “The Yak Camp,” is situated at approximately 5,700 meters (18,700 feet) above sea level. It is the first high camp along the route, marking a significant step in the ascent. Climbers establish this camp on a rocky terrace and use it as a resting point during their climb. From here, the route becomes steeper and more technical.

Camp II:

Called “The Advanced Camp,” Camp II is positioned at approximately 6,000 meters (19,685 feet). It is a critical waypoint in the climb and is nestled on a narrow snow ridge. Climbers may spend several nights here, adjusting to the altitude and preparing for the challenging sections ahead. Camp II offers breathtaking views of the surrounding Himalayan peaks.

Camp 2.7:

Also known as “The Summit Camp,” it is situated at around 6,480 meters (21,260 feet) above sea level. This camp is strategically located just below the mountain’s southwest ridge. It is the final camp before the summit push and requires a technical climb to reach. Climbers typically set off from here in the early hours of the morning for their summit attempt.

Ama Dablam Summit:

The ultimate goal of the expedition is to reach the summit of Ama Dablam, which stands at an impressive 6,812 meters (22,349 feet) above sea level. The summit push is the most challenging part of the climb, often involving technical rock and ice sections. Success at the summit is a testament to the climber’s skill, determination, and preparation!

Is this trip the right fit for you?

  • Ama Dablam is a more challenging peak at 6,812m. Prior high-altitude mountaineering experience and excellent fitness levels are required. It’s not for newer climbers.
  • The climb requires ascending steep exposed ridges and climbing rock. Excellent technical skills in ropes, rappelling, anchors, etc., are essential.
  • The summit bid involves difficult sections like the Yellow Tower. This requires strong mental stamina, in addition to physical capability.
  • Weather conditions on summit day can be extremely harsh – low temperatures with strong winds. Make sure you have top-grade cold weather gear to withstand that.
  • Camping for weeks around 5,000 – 6,000m means very basic tent conditions and below-freezing temps. Prepare mentally and with gear for sleeping in such environments.
  • Due to tricky logistics, unstable weather issues, etc., summit attempts tend to be tough. Be mentally ready to turn around if needed.
  • Limited summit days per season means securing a permit many months in advance. It gets booked out quickly by experienced climbers only.
  • Ama Dablam’s difficulty requires technical skills. It’s suited for intermediate-advanced climbers pursuing a major Himalayan challenge with proper prior extreme altitude experience.

What makes this trip enjoyable for you?

  • Summiting a classic and stunning 6,812m peak like Ama Dablam provides a huge sense of personal achievement and pride after a demanding climb. The incredible views are the reward.
  • Attempting steep rock pitches on the southwest ridge using ropes, gear, and technical ability is an adventurous challenge for experienced climbers.
  • Learning to handle difficult sections requires mountaineering skill development. This benefits future extreme altitude climbs.
  • Being fully self-sufficient for weeks while camping across varying terrains from base camp to summit pushes your resilience and wilderness skills.
  • Trekking in the Khumbu Valley offers stunning high-mountain scenery, Buddhist culture, and charming Sherpa villages to discover along the way.
  • Crossing high passes before attempting Ama Dablam is very rewarding yet grueling, underscoring the remoteness.
  • Overcoming adversity together with your expedition team when tackling such a serious peak forms a lasting friendship.
  • If successful, landing atop such an iconic summit with jaw-dropping Himalayan views all around is a moment you’ll never forget.

Home of the majestic Mt. Everest (8848m), the Everest region boasts a wide range of trails leading deeper into the Himalayas amongst which Island Peak climbing is one of the most frequented and also one of the most loved. Surrounded by a sea of ice, the mountain peak hosts a surreal view of the entire Everest Himalayas whilst filling you in with the adventure of standing on a Mountain Top.

Combining this with the classic Everest Base Camp Trek gives you a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to experience the Everest Region in all its glory. Island Peak is located at Imja Tse Valley. This is the most popular climbing peak in Nepal. It prefers those climbers with less experience or those to climb for the first time to go over six thousand m altitudes.

Trip Outline

Island Peak climbing is the Himalayan journey that commences with an exhilarating mountain flight to the renowned airstrip of Lukla. Following the banks of the Dudh Koshi River to reach Phakding, the trek begins from Lukla through lush green forests covered with rhododendrons, fir, and magnolia trees. Past the hamlets of Thulo Ghamela, Bengkar, and Monjo, the trail reaches Jorsalle and enters Sagarmatha National Park in the process.

You then reach the picturesque town of the Sherpas, Namche, where you take a day off for acclimatization before setting off to Tengboche. Visiting the sacred Dawa Choling Monastery in Tengboche, you continue the trek through the settlements of Pheriche, Lobuche, and Gorakshep to then traverse along the lateral moraines of Khumbu and Lhotse glaciers to reach Everest Base Camp (5364m) where you get to marvel at the unforgettable beauty of the Himalayas.

Attractions of Trek

An early journey to Kalapatthar offers you a gorgeous Himalayan sunrise and then takes you back to Lobuche, from where you leave the classic EBC trekking route and cross the arduous Kongma La Pass (5535m) to reach Chhukung. Taking a day off to acclimatize and also practice some climbing techniques, you summit the majestic Island Peak (6,189m) through ice and snow, experiencing every bit of the unique Himalayan experience. As you retrace your trail to Pangboche, Namche, Lukla, and Kathmandu, the feeling of accomplishment starts to sink in leaving you to want for more.

Is this trip the right fit for you?

  • Island Peak Climbing is a challenging trek that ascends to 6,189m, so previous high-altitude trekking experience is highly recommended. The climb includes steep ascents on snow and ice with crampons and ropes.
  • A high level of fitness is required as you will be trekking 5-6 hours daily before the summit climb. Endurance training should be done before the trip. The summit climb takes 10-12 hours roundtrip from base camp.
  • Technical climbing skills like the use of harnesses, crampons, and ice axes are necessary. Previous knowledge of knots, ropes and climbing techniques is essential to learn before the trip.
  • The trip is best done in April-May or October-November to avoid monsoon rains and severe cold. But weather at those times can still be unpredictable with storms and snow.
  • You must be comfortable with basic camping during the trek and prepared for very basic conditions at the high camps on the mountain. Sleeping in tents at freezing temperatures is required.
  • Island Peak is in a remote region, so you should not expect advanced medical facilities. Have proper travel insurance in case of emergencies or altitude sickness.
  • Before attempting the summit, no previous mountaineering experience is required but you should be very confident in your physical fitness, stamina, and technical skills.

What makes this trip enjoyable for you?

  • The sense of accomplishment in summiting a 6,000+ meter Himalayan peak after a challenging climb is an amazing feeling. Standing atop the summit with views of the high mountains is hugely rewarding.
  • Trekking through the beautiful Everest region for days before the climb is scenic with views of mountains like Lhotse, Nuptse, and Ama Dablam. The culture of Sherpa villages at places like Namche Bazaar is fascinating to experience.
  • Acquiring new mountaineering abilities, such as using ice axes, ropes, harnesses, and crampons, is enjoyable and enhances your outdoor passion. These are excellent skills for your next climbing expedition.
  • Island Peak is an adventurous trek with stunning landscapes as you hike past glaciers, craggy ridges, and snow-capped peaks. The Alpine climbing environment is breathtaking if you love nature.
  • Training and getting in your best physical fitness before the trip is a great goal to work towards. Seeing your endurance improve is motivating.
  • Summiting Island Peak is considered a major mountaineering achievement but is still accessible to adventurers with proper training and guidance. It’s a great introduction to serious climbing.
  • Returning home with incredible memories, photos and stories of climbing a Himalayan peak is priceless. You gain confidence in yourself and your abilities. It’s an amazing personal accomplishment.
  • Magnificent vistas of the Khumbu Icefall and other glaciers like the Khumbu and Lhotse glaciers can be seen from vantage points along the trail. The icefalls are spectacular to witness in person.
  • Traditional Sherpa settlements like Namche Bazaar provide insight into the lives of these mountain people. Their Tibetan Buddhism culture, traditions, and hospitality are fascinating to experience.
  • The trail passes through Sagarmatha National Park allowing you to spot unique flora like rhododendrons and wildlife like Himalayan tahr and musk deer. The biodiversity of the region is incredible.

We here at High Route Adventure have been accompanying trekkers and thrill-seekers for over a decade making sure we provide our clients with the very best of services enabling them to enjoy their adventure to the fullest. Shared or Private: Everest Base Camp Helicopter Tour

Sharing and the private helicopter both offer a swift, and straightway to get close front of the world’s highest Mt. Everest. Both the sharing and private helicopter tours’ main purpose is to provide an extraordinary and awe-inspiring adventure. Let us discuss further between sharing a Helicopter Tour and a Private helicopter tour.

Sharing Helicopter Tour

In sharing a Helicopter Tour, you will travel with fellow travelers, which makes this tour budget-friendly. As the expense is divided among the individual person it reduces the cost and is suitable if you are budget-conscious travelers. You will not only share the excitement but also have a chance to meet different background people and make friends.

During this tour, the itinerary is ready-made, which makes planning easier and hassle-free. Apart from that the main cons of this tour are you will have less privacy, limited flexibility and you have to wait Group before departure.

Private Helicopter Tour

A private Helicopter Tour is a luxurious tour where you can personalize your itinerary and choose landing points according to your interests. It is more expensive than the Sharing-based Helicopter tour because it comes at a premium price. It is suitable for those who want privacy, more space, and comfort during the helicopter flight.

During this tour, you can set your own time of flight which gives a personalized and convenient experience. Overall, depending on your budget and personal desire, you can choose between Sharing and a Private Helicopter Tour.

Introduction of Khumbu ice fall

The Khumbu Glacier, situated in Nepal, stands as the highest glacier on Earth. The Khumbu Icefall is a part of this glacier and is a frozen area near the bottom of Mount Everest. It’s about 5,486 meters (17,999 feet) high, not too far from Base Camp and to the southwest of the summit, at the entrance to the Western Cwm. This icy section is 2.3 kilometers long.

The Khumbu Icefall is known because climbers heading for Everest’s summit have to go through it. It’s famous for its special ladders that help climbers cross big gaps (crevasses) in the ice. Unfortunately, it’s also infamous for being very risky, and many people have lost their lives trying to pass through it.

● Summit climb traverses glaciers and 45-degree snow slopes, use of ropes, ice axe, and crampons is mandatory
● Mountaineering skills like the use of an ice axe and climbing on snow/ice are needed – previous experience is an advantage
● Mentally prepare for very basic camping conditions at freezing temperatures
● Carry proper cold weather clothing and gear as weather can be unstable with snow storms
● April-May and October-November are the best climbing months; the rest have harsh weather
● As the trip involves staying for days above 5000m, prior high-altitude trekking experience is essential
● With proper fitness, acclimatization, gear, and mountaineering skills, Lobuche can be a great first 6000m summit
● Technically straightforward climb, less technical in comparison to Lobuche West

What makes this trip enjoyable for you?

● Reaching the summit of Lobuche (6,119m), a high and challenging Himalayan peak after a tough climb, provides massive pride and achievement. The incredible views make the effort worthwhile.
● Trekking through remote mountain areas like the Khumbu Valley on the way to Lobuche offers beautiful high mountain scenery and a peaceful experience away from crowded trails.
● Learning mountaineering techniques like rope work, crampon use, and ice axe skills will expand technical knowledge, benefiting future climbs to even higher summits.
● Much of the trek follows the popular Everest Base Camp trail until diverting to Lobuche.
● Lobuche Peak provides great high-altitude climbing experience in a non-technical setting before moving on to tougher peaks. It builds fitness, stamina, and mental toughness.
● You can discover the enchanting Sherpa culture and villages along the way.
● The changing scenery when trekking to Lobuche is stunning – from forests to high passes, craggy peaks, and finally, snow and ice slopes leading to the top. The variation makes it very rewarding.
● You get views of giants like Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, Nuptse, Amadablam, Pumori, and more from Lobuche.
● The trail to Lobuche passes by the Khumbu Glacier, which is a sight to behold.

Everest Base Camp Heli Trek is one of the most thrilling adventures in Nepal. It is a trip that takes you all the way to the base camp of the world’s tallest mountain peak and then presents you to fly back to Kathmandu via a helicopter over the soaring Himalayas. Imagine, flying high above the mountain peaks and taking in the glorious aerial view of the Himalayas below you! There is nothing quite like the feel of getting a bird’s eye view of the towering peaks.

Trek Outline

The trip begins from Kathmandu with a guided sightseeing tour of the city’s major UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Thereafter, the trip heads toward mountain trekking just flying to Lukla which is one of the major villages of the Khumbu region and also home of the ethnic Sherpa people and the mighty Everest massif. The short flight to Lukla is in itself quite amazing as the airport in the village is situated on a high cliff that drops down towards the valley at one end!

From Lukla, the trekking trail coruscates around many ethnic Sherpa villages and settlements to finally conclude at the Everest Base Camp. The trip is filled with wonderful views of Mt Everest and other surrounding mountains that tower over the Dudh Koshi and the Imja River valleys. Famous hallmarks of the trip include the Himalayan town of Namche Bazaar, the Tengboche Monastery, the vantage point of Kalapatthar as well as the Sagarmatha National Park among many others.

Namche Bazaar

Namche Bazaar is one of the most famous Himalayan towns of the region, situated on a cliff-side and shaped like a natural amphitheater. Views of the mountain peaks from Namche are just spectacular as they surround the town like a giant colossus watching a spectacle. The town also used to be a trading point between highland merchants and lowland traders in ancient times. Moreover, Namche bazaar is also known as “the Gateway to Everest” and boasts one of the most colorful and lively Sherpa cultures in Khumbu.

Likewise, the Tengboche Monastery at the Tengboche village is one of the largest Buddhist monasteries in the region. Situated between the confluence of the Imja Khola and the Dudh Koshi Rivers, the village presents one of the most beautiful views of the Mahalangur Himalayan Range, like the Ama Dablam, Lhotse, Nuptse, the Kongdi RI, and Mount Thamserku among many others.

The Everest Base Camp Trek  Return Helicopter also takes you trekking through the Sagarmatha National Park – a UNESCO Natural World Heritage Site. It presents mesmerizing alpine woodlands to trek through. You can occasionally catch glimpses of elusive animals that reside in the forests and a vast array of avifaunal life. With rhododendron groves and bamboo woods decorating the land, pasturelands covering the low foothills like emerald carpets, and the high mountain peaks shadowing the valleys, the trip is utterly dripping with pleasing aesthetics that is hard to come by anywhere else on Earth.

Culture and Tradition at EBC

Additionally, the trip is also a great opportunity to enjoy the ethnic Sherpa culture of Nepal. Khumbu is the ancestral home of the legendary Sherpa people who practice their form of Buddhism and have a distinct dialect, costumes, art, literature, and festivals. The trek presents you with ample experience with the local people where you can witness the day-to-day lifestyle of the people of the mountains.

Finally, as you trek to the base camp of Mount Everest, you will then conclude your trekking journey with a flight back to the city via a helicopter! You will also visit the vantage point of Kalapatthar- one of the most famous vantage points in the region that presents panoramic views of the entire Mount Everest massif. Early morning treks to Kalapatthar are quite famous as the sunrise view from there amidst the Everest peaks is simply indescribable.

In correspondence to the bird’s eye view of the Himalayas, you also get extensive sight of the landscape as well, changing from snowy peaks to green pastures and chartreuse woodlands and terrace farms as you fly. It truly is an out-of-this-world experience.

Note: We want to recommend you schedule your arrival to Kathmandu within the morning or daytime so on allow you to attend the pre-trek brief and obtain over the beginning of your Everest Base Camp Helicopter Trek.

More often than not trekkers who journey to the high Himalayas believe that it is the strenuous and arduous routes that lead to mesmerizing destinations with views to match. As a result, countless trekking routes across the nation are often overlooked with no idea of what they are missing out on. One of those stunning trekking routes, spanning the lower Everest Region, is the Pikey Peak Trek.

Boasting stunning Himalayan views of the mighty Everest (8848m), perhaps the very best in the lower Everest region, the hilly route to Pikey Peak is one of the shorter treks in the Himalayas. The trek takes you to authentic Buddhist hamlets depicting local Sherpa culture and guides you through lush green forests creating a mesmerizing journey in the Himalayan foothills.

Pikey Peak Trek.

Pikey Peak Trek begins with a scenic drive from Kathmandu to the town of Phaplu, in lower Solukhumbu. Following the BP Highway, due east, you drive alongside stunning rivers, small rustic settlements, and gorgeous hills until reaching the banks of Solu River, beyond which lies the small Sherpa village of Phaplu. From Phaplu, the trek starts and heads through gorgeous alpine forests and wide meadows to reach another Sherpa village called Junbesi.

You can experience Sherpa culture and lifestyle firsthand in Junbesi and can also visit the sacred Junbesi Monastery for a glimpse of Buddhist culture. Past Junbesi, the trail ascends to Lamjura Hill from where the trail of Everest Base Camp Trek separates. Then, our trek continues until reaching the top of Pikey Peak (4065m), the highest hill in the lower Everest region.

Enjoying a scenic sunrise over the summits of Everest and Rolwaling ranges, the trail then descends through a forested area to reach the hamlet of Jhapre. With stunning views of Everest and Rolwaling ranges on the backdrop, the hilly journey takes you to the village of Dhap, marking the end of this Himalayan adventure.

We here at High Route Adventure have been accompanying trekkers and adventurers from around the world to the Everest Region for over a decade. We provide the best of services including private transport, carefully constructed itineraries, and the best accommodation.
