Tamang Heritage Trek is a scenic and cultural country that walks around the mid-hills of the Langtang Region. As well as close in the shade of Ganesh Himal, where the route also follows the border of Nepal and Tibet / China. An interesting hike of less than a week, but requires at least 8 days to cover the whole Tamang Heritage Tour. Including an exciting drive from Kathmandu to reach the starting point and at the end of the walks.

Tamang Heritage Trek

This wonderful trek to Tamang heritage starts from the capital Kathmandu with a drive to reach our mountain village destination at Syabrubesi. A nice village as well as the starting and ending point of various treks and adventures around the Langtang region and Ganesh Himal region.

The hike leads you from Syabrubesi a Tamang village, to reach a large lovely village at Gatlang, inhabited mostly by the Tamang tribe. A traditional welcome reception by the villagers offering garland and Buddhist prayer silk scarf and then head towards your overnight stop. In a nice local cottage, known as a home-stay managed by the village community, a simple with moderate tourist standard facilities. Enjoy the day at Gatlang, exploring its places of great cultural interest. As well as interacting with the native, and learning more about the local traditional life of ancient Buddhism and Bon heritage.

From here after a lovely pleasant moment, head further to reach a village with a natural hot spring, another highlight of the journey. The village itself called Tatopani means hot water or spring, where you can enjoy a dip in warm and hot pools. After a relaxing stay at Tatopani, the walk follows the old and present Trans Himalaya Salt Trade Trail of Nepal and Tibet. The trail is widely used at present for commercial trade of import and export between the two countries.

Rhododendron and Pine trees

Walking into a cool forested area of tall rhododendron and pine trees with views of Langtang and Ganesh Himal with peaks of Tibet. Located just across the border, our scenic walk takes you to the highest point of the hike. On top of Nagethali high hill at the height of 3,154 m, offers breathtaking views of surrounding dramatic landscapes. Includes close views of towering Ganesh Himal massif with Langtang Himal range of peaks, slowly our journey comes to an end.

Our return hike takes you to the lovely villages of Thuman and Bridim to reach Syabrubesi village. For the last overnight around Langtang Himal area, where next morning takes you to hustle and bustle city back in Kathmandu. Enjoy the spectacular trek to divine Gosainkunda Lake located amidst scenic mountains inside Langtang Region. Traverse through the pristine alpine forests and varied landscapes along the Nepal-Tibet Border and take a plunge into one of the holiest lakes in the world. Langtang Gosainkunda Helambu Trek is one of the closest trek destinations to Kathmandu.

Home of Langtang Lirung Peak (7227m), the cultural Helambu region, and the most elusive Red Panda, the trek explores the ancient Shamanistic culture of the region along with traversing the ancient trans-Himalayan trade route. Gosainkunda Lake is situated at 4360m and consists of numerous holy lakes that are frequented by thousands of pilgrims each year.

Langtang Gosainkunda Helambu Trek

The Langtang Gosainkunda Helambu Trek extends from the historical Kathmandu City to the mountainous Langtang Region. Langtang valley remains one of the top 5 trek destinations in Nepal with more than 12,000 tourists visiting the region every year. An 8hr drive northwest will take you to Sybrubensi from where you’ll begin trekking along with the cultural Tamang villages en route to Langtang.

The trek rises along the Himalayan route towards Kyanjin Gompa. You’ll make a short hike to Tserko RI (4980m) and enjoy the pristine sights of Langtang Lirung, Langshisha RI, and Shishapangma peaks before heading down to Lama Hotel. The trail converges into a detour that goes past Thulo Syabru village towards the historical Sing Gompa (Monastery).

You’ll trek further up to make your way towards Gosainkunda Lake. Surrounded by mountains on all sides, the lakes remain frozen and inaccessible for 6 consecutive months. You will explore the holy site and the oligotrophic lake before heading towards the Helambu trekking. You’ll trek through some of the most culturally preserved Tamang villages en route. You’ll walk past Ghopte, Thadepati Pass, Melamchi Gaon, Tarkeghyang, and Sermathang to reach Melamchi Bazaar. The trek concedes once you drive back to Kathmandu.
