Kailash Mansarovar Yatra Overview

The fresh air, silent and spiritual atmosphere, and Tibetan prayer flag fluttering on the trail path—this isn’t just a tour of Tibet; it’s an awakening spiritual journey full of adventures. This is the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra.

This journey is more than a pilgrimage tour. In Fact, it is an opportunity to rediscover a deep sense of inner peace and a chance to disconnect from the chaos of everyday life. You walk through beautiful landscapes and sacred places and feel a spiritual vibe that speaks to your soul.

This Kailash Mansarovar Yatra from Nepal Package with Kathmandu Sightseeing Tour is not just about reaching the destination on your bucket list. It is a tour that invites you to get out of your comfort zone, experience the unknown, and return home with more than just memories. This pilgrimage tour is a must-visit destination for all the pilgrims who want to get blessings from Mount Kailash and want to shape their spirit.

Why Kailash Mansarovar Yatra Horse Year 2026 is Extra Auspicious

1. The Power of the Fire Horse Year: The Horse Year happens only once every 12 years, and this year, 2026, is a Horse Year. According to Tibetan legend, in the Horse Year, it boosts the spiritual energy of Mount Kailash and Lake Mansarovar. This year is really a good time to change your inner self and clean your Karma.

2. Multiplied Spiritual Merit: There is a strong belief that doing the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra in Horse Year 2026 is 12-13 times more spiritually beneficial than a normal year. Every step you walk on this 52km Kora will heal your mind, body, remove obstacles, and help to heal spiritually.

3. Heightened Cosmic Energy & Karma Cleansing: Mount Kailash is regarded as one of the most powerful cosmic energy vortexes on Earth. During the Fire Horse Year, this energy is believed to intensify, supporting deeper meditation, faster spiritual progress, and the dissolution of negativity.

4. Convergence with the Saga Dawa Festival: The 2026 pilgrimage coincides with the Saga Dawa Festival in May, which honors the birth, enlightenment, and parinirvana of the Buddha. Participating during this sacred time is believed to multiply blessings through collective prayers, rituals, and deep devotional energy.

5. A Rare Opportunity: If you miss this Year Horse Year event, you need to wait for another 12 years. So this is a rare chance and a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. China issues very few permits to Tibet, so seats are limited and demand is high in this Horse Year.

Book your spot early and secure your seat, and let 2026 be the year your soul awakens.

Major Attractions of Kailash Mansarovar Yatra

Mount Kailash: The Abode of Shiva

Sacred North Face of Kailash from the pass

Mount Kailash is also known as Kang Rimpoche in Tibetan and Kailash Parvat in Sanskrit. The altitude of this holy mountain is 6,638 meters (21,778 feet) above sea level. Buddhism, Jainism, Bon, and Hindu religions consider this peak a holy destination, and they have their own belief.

Buddhists consider it the home of Demchog, a tantric deity representing enlightenment, while Hindus see it as the residence of Lord Shiva and his wife, Parvati. According to Jains, Rishabhadeva, their first Tirthankara, achieved emancipation there. Kailash is regarded as the world’s spiritual centre by the Tibetan Bon religion.

Lake Mansarovar: The Lake of Purity

One of the main attractions of the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra is Lake Mansarovar and its beauty. This holy Lake is situated at the foot of Mount Kailash, and in Sanskrit, this Lake is called the “Lake of Consciousness and Victory”. Hindu and Tibetan Buddhism believe that taking a Dip in this holy Lake can purify the soul and wash away sins. Lake Mansarovar is also thought to have originated in the imagination of Hindu mythology’s creator, Brahma.

Rakshastal: The Lake of Demons

Scenic view of Rakshastal Lake near Mount Kailash.

Rakshastal, which is situated near the peaceful Lake Mansarovar, is also known as the “Lake of Demons.” Rakshastal is a saltwater lake with a more uncertain and oppressive mood that is near Mansarovar but completely distinct. According to Hindu mythology, it was created by Ravana, the demon king of Lanka, for penance to Lord Shiva.

The Parikrama (Kora): The Circumambulation

Yam Dwar: First step toward Mount Kailash
Yam Dwar: First step toward Mount Kailash

The most characteristic feature of the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra is the Parikrama, also called the Kora. Pilgrims pass through stunning scenery, such as the scenic Zuthulu-Puk cave monastery, the high Dolma-La Pass (5,630 meters), and the dramatic Dira-Puk monastery.

Ashtapad:

For Jains, Ashtapad is one of the most sacred and revered places to visit. Located south of Mount Kailash, Ashtapad is considered the site where the first Jain Tirthankara, Rishabhanatha, attained Nirvana. Visitors can still visit the base and see Ashtapad from a distance, even if access to the actual peak is currently limited because of the rugged terrain and environmental concerns.

Tirthapuri:

Tirthapuri is located approximately 60 kilometres southwest of Mansarovar Lake. It is another Major attraction of the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra. This sacred site is revered for its hot springs, caves, and the footprints of Padmasambhava, the founder of Tibetan Buddhism.

Few Things To Know Before Heading to Kailash Mansarovar Yatra

Kailash Mansarovar Yatra

Kailash Mansarovar Yatra is considered one of the toughest spiritual Yatras in Tibet due to the involvement of the high-altitude trek. This high-altitude trek is also known as Kailash Kora. Pilgrims can choose two types of Kora: Outer Kora and Inner Kora.

Outer Kora, which circles Mount Kailash, is around 52 km long and mainly starts from Darchen. Pilgrims who will do the Kailash Outer Kora will follow the route of  Dirapuk Monastery, pass through Dolma La Pass(5,630 meters), and descend from Zutulpuk Monastery (4,790m) towards Darchen. It takes around 3 days to complete this Kailash Outer Kora, and many prefer to choose this Kailash Outer when they are in Tibet for the Kailash Yatra.

Kailash Inner Kora or Inner Parikrama of Kailash Peak takes around 6-7 hours to complete. Pilgrims who wish to complete the Inner Kora need to cover the trek distance of around 34km. Even though it can be completed in a single day, it is more challenging than the outer Kailash Kora. During Inner Kora, you will witness Astha Path, Nandi Parvat, Atmalingam, Saptarishi cave, and Rakshas Lingam.

Kailash Charan Sparsh is also a part of Kailash Inner Kora, where you touch the feet of Mount Kailash. The Kailash Inner Kora route is uninhabited, with no human settlements or shops along the way. And because of its difficult trekking paths, trekkers must start only if the weather permits.

Mount Kailash is renowned worldwide for its spiritual and religious significance. There are also various legends and mysteries involved in this holy Mountain. Pilgrims or visitors who wish to do a Yatra to the Kailash Mountain must have good health conditions for trekking. Only experienced trekkers can complete the Kailash Inner Kora, so those who are beginners can go for the Kailash Outer Kora.

To complete the Kailash Kora from Kathmandu via overland, it will take around 16 days to complete. Those who wish to avoid the Kailash Kora can complete the trek in 5-6 working days. If you’re interested, High Route Adventure also offers packages for the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra with Charan Sparsh and the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra with Everest base camp.

Kailash Mansarovar Yatra: Tibet Permit And Visa – 2026

Tibet is home to Mount Kailash, and the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra, also known as the Yatra to Mount Kailash, is a spiritual pilgrimage there. People who wish to do this Kailash Mansarovar Pilgrimage Yatra must obtain a Chinese group visa and a Tibet Travel Permit. If you wish to visit restricted areas like Everest Base Camp, you need an additional permit (Alien Travel Permit), and in some cases, you need a military permit.

Kailash Mansarovar Full Moon Tour 2026
Full Moon over the Lake Manasarovar, Tibet

Full Moon is considered a spiritually significant time in Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism, and Bon traditions. In all these religions, the Full Moon is believed to bring heightened spiritual energy, making it an ideal time for spiritual practices, including pilgrimage and meditation.

In Hinduism, the Full Moon is associated with the completion of certain rituals, and it is believed to have a purifying effect on the mind and soul. The Full Moon period is especially auspicious for visiting sacred places like Mount Kailash.

In Buddhism, the Full Moon is celebrated as Vesak, the day Buddha was born, attained enlightenment, and passed away. This day is marked by prayers, offerings, and pilgrimages, including around sacred sites.

In Jainism, the Full Moon is also significant for meditation and spiritual growth, as it represents purity and enlightenment. The Jain community undertakes pilgrimages to sacred sites during the Full Moon to cleanse their karma.

In Bon (the ancient spiritual tradition of Tibet), the Full Moon is also a time for rituals and spiritual practices that align with the lunar cycle, focusing on purification and achieving harmony with the universe.

According to Tibetan belief, 2026 is the Year of the Horse, and performing the Kora during this Horse Year offers 12-13 times more spiritual benefits, with intensified cosmic energy for deeper healing and karma cleansing.
